Why reinvent the wheel? Buy a complete exhaust system that includes the muffler and all installation hardware from Jack Lawrence, Motorsport Service (716-665-4200). This is 1.75" inside diameter (I.D.) the whole way with equal length y-pipe runners optimally tuned(~51")and a glass pack muffler. Pipe and muffler are aluminized. This system enhances scavenging of the heads and is dyno-tested and race proven. Better yet, also bore out the doughnut and exhaust port to 1.73" diameter back to the internal split to make the exhaust even more free flowing. This system makes several additional horsepower over the original stock system (1.5" I.D. runners)and makes your Sonett sound like a sports car should with no back rap, unlike the aftermarket gaping-hole fart-pipes commonly installed on hondas, toyotas and other imports. The system on my 1972 has lasted 20 years. When you purchase quality parts from long established businesses, you avoid reinventing the wheel and ensure continued availablity of parts for these cars for years to come. I also encourage you to patronize Jack Ashcraft, Vintage Saab Parts (541-779-0731) and Chip Lamb, West of Sweden Saab (804-357-4926) Chip also offers exhaust system parts.
