From what I know the cars originally did not have sway bars installed. I 've owned 4 Sonetts (2 '68s and 2 '69s) since the early 70s, and only the one I bought 3 years ago, a '69, VIN # 1407, had a sway bar. It was probably added on a few years ago by a previous owner.
Yes, the sway bar from other VSaabs will fit. Jack Ashcraft writes about how to do so in his performance book. You almost need to have the engine out to do it.
I bet your problem is that the suspension bushings are shot. West of Sweden sells replacement kits. Many of the pieces are similar to new Saab bits. Two months ago, after the bushings were replaced in my '69, the handling precision improved markedly. After the replacement, you may need to get a wheel alignment.
