Sonett easy to go into reverse slot..

Saabers,
My 1971 shifter slides easily into the "Reverse line". It distracts from the fun,as I do not wish to accidently select reverse, while my intent is to shift to first gear.
Has anyone constructed a "reverse lockout", similar to the classic 900s?
This is my first Sonett and I wonder if anything is worn in the mechanism, or is this normal from the factory?
Thanks for the help
