Door hinge pin

I don't know if this is a lesson learned post, or a help wanted post, or what. I put the doors back on my car last week and the drivers side was loose. Cause: Worn hinge pin. The design is that the hinge pin is stationary and the door rotates on the pin. To insure this, the pin is grooved at the top to mate with groves in the body of the car. Best I can figure is the pin worked it's way up, out of the grooves, and then the door could rotate the pin. Then the door welded itself to the pin over the years. The pin, which was never supposed to move, wore down not only itself, but the (press fit? welded?) bushing on the body.
I've gotten as far as figuring out that the pin is a VERY non-standard 8mm pin. And the bushing is a very non-existant internally grooved bushing, attached in an unknown matter to the body. My only idea so far is to weld in a hardened 8mm bolt. I could probably get some kind of 8mm steel rod if i went to the steel supply store...maybe.
Internet and board searches have failed me...
Help?
