Derek,
My experience has been that they pretty much fall right out when you undo the limit straps.
Front springs, on the other hand, are a bear, as most everyone knows.
If your limit straps are shot, you can make up some new ones by buying a set of 1 inch wide cargo straps. You see those sold everywhere and they're not expensive. Get a decent pair in a color you like and sacrifice one for your new limit straps. Cut to length and then melt the cut end so it doesn't unravel. I did this on my '73 Sonett 15 years ago and have driven it quite hard- the limit straps have held up perfectly! Just make sure you make the new ones the same length.
