I bled it once thoroughly then drove it fora couple of months, then had to drive it home in third one night. This car has always had about 3/4 inch of play between the pointwhere the pedal comes into contact with the push rod and the pointwhere a significant amount of pedal pressure is felt. This is in contrast to our 1983 900 S which has no play whatsoever. Then I rebuilt the slave. While reinstalling the slave, I banged very hard (with a dense object)on the clutch pin until I realized that it needed to be aligned withthe hole in the flywheel. Then I had all kinds of nightmares aboutdamage that might have done to the crankshaft or bearings or bushings.Any thoughts on how much or how to look for it? (It's been runningfine since.) Anyhow, after rebuilding the slave I decided that it was pretty muchin the same shape as before, so I rebuilt the master. Then I bled it.And bled it. And bled it. And finally decided that the leak wasprobably fixed, but the play was a permanent condition.A couple of thousand miles later, no more air has gotten in, and allseems fine. But not like our 83.Are these designs different or do I still have a problem? One more thing, beginning at around 60,000 miles, the car wouldroll backwards during the starting procedure with the clutchdepressed but the shifter in reverse. It doesn't do that anymore soit was probably related to the air leak?Jonathan FreidinKendall Square Research Posts in this Thread:
