If you check out all the info on the BB's about this, I think it basically comes down to this: without diversifying its product line, Saab won't stand a chance in the future. Sure, an SUV's not terribly Saabish, but I think we should all wait until it comes out to see if this SUV is just like every other SUV out there (and I'm going to bet it won't be). People were affaid of the 9-5 because it was based on the Opel Vectra, but look how it turned out. Sure, it's a bit bigger than a usual Saab, but its got many other qualities of being a true Saab.
The future's not certain with any company, but how can a small company like Saab with two product lines compete with companies that have 5 or 10. You said 'An SUV: Not sure I'm ready for this!!', but I say 'Saab bankruptcy: Not sure I'm ready for that!!' But that's just my opinion, so only time will tell. :)
