1988 9000S HVAC fan speed
Posted by Jack Brooks (more from Jack Brooks) on Tue, 6 Jul 1999 10:04:49
My 1988 9000S had another brief episode of uncontrolled heater/AC fan speeds. This happed for an hour about five years ago, although slightly differently back then. Yesterday, the fan blasted to high and wouldn't respond to panel controls to lower the speed. It would occasionally oscillate randomly between high and the lower speeds, but not respond to the controls at all. Later last night, however, it was fine again.
Several years ago, it go locked on high for about an hour also, then returned to normal. I've never had a heater/AC related failure to date, short of the Freon finally getting low enough for a recharge last month. One of the Schrader valve was leaking slowly. (BTW - Jerry Sweet of Sweet Motors, in Succasanna, NJ did a reasonably priced drain, re-oil and refill. He also did my clutch some time ago. Good shop.)
Anyone have any ideas about what is going on, or experience with similar symptoms with a fan motor? Should I be ready to replace the fan and or diode pack?
