Ragtop and glass bonding
Posted by Leng, Mark S [AMSTA-AR-CCL-B] (more from Leng, Mark S [AMSTA-AR-CCL-B]) on Mon, 24 Jul 2000 23:21:17
is starting to deteriorate. When I wash the top, hosing the roof now results in water running off the rear windshield and collecting under the canvas fabric between the bottom of the glass, the canvas expands with the trapped water and one must physically push the water out (same direction it came in) to allow the canvas to flatten out and dry. The factory seal, which looks like a double sided neoprene tape has lost its adhesiveness to the glass, so now the canvas can lift off and acts like a canvas pocket to collect water ( This situation must also be occurring while driving and the air flow opening up this newly formed pocket). With the current situation, water collected just sits inside this newly formed pocket without seeping or leaking out. Does anyone know what is the official factory repair for this incident.
the glass and canvas as a fix? I just wonder how good of a bond will silicone be with the canvas fabric, I know with the glass it will form an excellent bond. Someone recommended to use the sticky asphalt type adhesive used by the shops to form the gasket on windshields that will stay soft without curing to compensate for the canvas fabric non-stick surface.
Any thoughts on my remedy,
Mark
