1989 9000S Ignition Problem
Posted by John Kupiec (more from John Kupiec) on Tue, 8 Aug 2000 11:00:37
Howie, a Bosch distributor cap and rotor should work just fine. As for the oil buildup in the distributor, that is common on medium-high mileage cars. Whether this situation can be corrected is something you should ask an independent garage that deals with Saabs. If the 9000 series has the same distributor design as the 900s of that era, then the problem cannot be corrected except by installing a rebuilt distributor assembly. An independent shop should be able to give you an assessment. Perhaps you should have them give the car a general check, to let you know what you may be in for if you decide to keep the car.
