Heads are heads. The only parts of the motor that change turbo to
non-turbo are the pistons & sometimes the cam(s).

ticking? That could be one of several causes. Air in the oil lines to
the valve lifters (in a 16v head). If it doesn't go away after some
driving, it could be that a lifter or lifters are collapsed and need
to be replaced. That takes puling the cover, the cam & the affected
lifter. Or, oil isn't getting to the lifters. Perhaps the oil tubes
are leaking (if an early head {up to mid 88}), or the seals for them
are leaking. Perhaps the head gasket was installed wrong way round.
This could cut off the oil supply to the cams & lifters. 8 v heads -
some ticking is normal (solid lifters). If it's too much, then maybe
the clearance needs adjusting again.
