1) Check the ENTIRE intake tract for split/detached vacuum lines, popped grommets (they hold the fittings in the manifold), and if a turbo, pull all of the turbo plumbing and very carefully go over the 'boots' that couple the turbo ducts together.
2) check & double-check the condition of the coil & wires, cap, rotor, etc. When were any of these changed? when were the plugs changed? If the answer isn't under 30,000 miles, change 'em. Right plugs? NGK is the Saab recommendation at 0.028 gap. Few if any have had problems with NGKs. Bosch, particularly the Platinums or Plus 4s, people on line either swear by or swear at (I'm in the latter category)
3) I'll toss this one out too...If the car is an 8-valve motor, and the climate is hot, the rest pressure of the FI must be checked. There is a pressure accumulator mounted near the fuel tank. If this doesn't work (i.e. by maintaining pressure while the car is shut off), the caqr can be hard to start...
Some more info on the car would be handy!
