darned automatic climate control [saabnow]

Subject: darned automatic climate control
=================
I have a problem with my 1995 9000CS (with 115,000 miles on it). The
air conditioner works for the first couple of minutes, and then it cuts
out. The fan works fine, as does everything else. The compressor just
cuts out. I left it with my mechanic for a few days so he could play
with it. He gave it back to me unfixed, because the weather was too
cool to test. He feels strongly that it's an electrical problem or a
temperature sensor. The cool weather didn't cause the failure. So I
have to go back when the weather heats up.

This is one of the most irritating things to me. I can live in a home
with no air conditioning, but I get really uncomfortable in a hot car.

If I turn the entire system off for a few minutes and turn it back on,
the A/C works for another couple of minutes. It doesn't work if I just
press the 'econ' button. This makes me think the problem is in the
climate control computer, not the temp sensor. Another thought I had
is that when it's really hot, the system does turn the fan speed way
up, so I think it is detecting the temp properly.

Another clue is that sometimes at night, I see a few of the button
lights are off. Then if I turn the system off and on, sometimes the
button lights come back. I can't test this in the day, because there's
too much light to see if the button lights are working.

I bet the climate control would be expen$ive to replace.

Is it possible to get the manual system for this car? I believe some
European models had this as an option a few years ago, but I don't know
about now. I think the whole idea of an automatic system is dumb. I
never liked it. I had it on my 1987 9000S, too, which I bought in
1991. I find I have to adjust the system more often than I do a manual
system, so I'd be happy to save money and have a manual system.

Someone please say yes and tell me how it's done!

Thank you for the 100th time.
