Subject: RE: cooling fan problem? ================= Most cars need some back pressure to keep the block pressure above ambient system pressure. It prevents localized boiling by keeping the pressure higher within the block. This is why many racers, who need all the cooling they can get, use restrictor plates. It has nothing to do with water moving too fast the radiator - that is a myth.
Put your thermostat is a pot of water and boil it. It should open right before the water goes to full boil. If it is bad, get the proper thermostat from a dealer or aftermarket and replace it.
Since your problem is with idle, not hwy running, I'd suspect that fan, not the thermostat, but I am not familiar with the two fan system.
