Subject: 1999 9-5 'front cover reseal' $1500? ================= 1999 9-5 'front cover reseal' $1500? I'm the original owner of a 1999 Saab 9-5; just went in to the dealer for my 40,000 mile service. I've done regular maintenance (oil change 2x/yr; 10k, 20k, 30k dealer service; brakes at 30k; tires at 38k miles). Dealer service dept says I'm leaking a little oil from the front cover (protects the timing cover/timing chain), so I need to pay over $1500 (2/3 labor) for a front cover reseal. How common is this, and does the price sound reasonable (east coast USA, $89/hr labor)? Also, they discovered oil on a sensor, indicating the seals on the turbo are might be starting to go. Sounds like the turbo replacement is another $800,Êalthough they suggested fixing the front cover issue may solve all the current oil leaks. I thougth Saabs were supposed to clear 100k miles with limited maintenance. Should I get a second opinion, or just 'bite the bullet'? Any advice appreciated.
