Subject: Re: 9000 what oil? ================= Saabs are delivered with synthetic oil (my understanding is that it is Mobil one re-labled as Saab Oil (in thier parts dept.) I also understand that you void any remaining warranty if you do NOT use sythetic oil of the recommended viscosity. It's not the motor as much as it's for the turbo -- use synthetic. Mobil 1 0W40 for imports. The turbo runs extremely hot and the SynOil does a superior job of not coking when the hot engine/turbo is shut off. The added lubrication afforded by the SynOil certainly won't harm the engine either. I buy the oil 5 qts at a time at Pep Boys or Auto Zone for about $3.75 qt., then grab the high-end Fram filter. Due to all the hassles of used oil disposal, etc. I pay a nearby oil quick change place $12 to do the dirty work (while I watch/supervise!). Grand total for an oil and filter change, using the best sythetic, runs about $35 total this way. Because it's synthetic, I change it every 5,000 or 6,000Êmiles instead of 3,000 - 4,000Êwhen using regular oil -- so it nets out to about the same $$ over time, with the added insurance of the synthetic oil.
