Subject: My Saab 95 is Possessed ================= Hello,
I have a 2000 Saab 95 that has recently been possessed by demons or something. It got flooded by the recent hurricane lite weather we had roll through Virginia (there must have been a problem with the sealant on the driver's side door, because it looks like the water leaked in through there).
I guess the water got into the electrical system, because the car has been acting incredibly flaky. Various things work at various times. The lights go on and off, as does the radio, and until I unplugged the power the passenger side seat would move on its own. Most embarrassingly, the alarm was going off every five minutes until I pulled the fuse on it.
I took it to my local mechanic to take a look at it and he couldn't because the key was locked out. I verified that this was the case, but tonight when I went to pick it up, the key worked fine (which is good, because I couldn't have it towed, since the towing company could not put it neutral since the key wouldn't work).
It appears the problem is with a short in the anti-theft system that has led to a cascade of failures in the electrical system. I have to take the car in to the dealership to get the anti-theft system replaced. The dealership (International Motors), is telling me that it will cost about $5,000 and will take about 30 days to get fixed.
On the plus side, they will let me have a loaner call for one whole day.
$5,000 and 30 days seems extremely excessive to me, do any of you have experience with electrical system failures in your Saab's, and if so, is this price about right?
Thanks!
