The AIC valve is mounted on the front/left side of the cylinder head on my
'86 900 16v T. Its cylindrical and should have a rubber surround where the
mounting clamp tightens.

There are two larger vacuum lines coming off the AIC. One from an elbow on
top of the intake manifold to the top of the AIC, iirc. The second comes
off the bottom of the AIC to the throttle housing. You should also have a
3-wire electrical connector coming off the top of the AIC.

With the engine idling, you can rap on the unit with a screwdriver handle
and note if there is any settling/change of the idle. Generally a quick
test to see if it is hung up mechanically.

In cleaning, I'd completely remove the unit and spay the inlet and outlet
with a good carb cleaner. Let drain a bit, then, follow with a good blast
of WD40 to re-lube.

Bob,

Ensure you check the fuel pump/pressure. I had a similar problem, but on an
'89 900 non-turbo. Pump wasn't anymore noisy than usual, but the
bucking/stalling got worse and worse until the car wouldn't run for more
than 45-60 seconds at a time. Don't think you have the same pump as I
(walbro), but the problem definitely sounds familiar.

When my AMM went south, it didn't cause any noticeable performance problems
(like bucking) other than a high idle in neutral (no39sdcx6spamx7821100-1200rpm).
