This query was sent in a about a week ago and I eagerly awaited the reply as
I have a similar problem with my 1988 900i. Unfortunately nothing has been
posted about this so I had a look at the Townsend import site which has an
amazing selection of technical tips. From my reading, it sounds like it is
the water pump. With factory made pumps we get the warning sounds before
failure whereas for after market pumps it very often just fails with no
warning. So when you (and I) replace the water pump you should stick to the
factory replacement.
Now .... anyone know a cheap source of factory made water pumps for a 1988
900i in the UK?

Clive
