Welcome, Michael, I too am an NEWBIE when it comes to Saabs. I've owned a number of Water cooled VW's. An 85 GTI, an 84 Jetta GLI & a 78 Scirocco. They are all long Gone, but I bought an 82 900 Turbo & am loving it. It isn't as nimble as the VW's but much more enjoyable to drive, very solid. I look forward to tweaking and upgrading (refurbishing mostly) the car to my likes.
>From what I've learned, the main trouble spot seems to the manual transmission. I cant offer any more, as I'm new myself.

You made a good choice; the classic 900 series is a safe and reliable buy. Let us know if you have any trouble with it and we can help you out. The only drawback in your purchase was the autotragic tranny which is not as reliable as the 5 speed. Good luck!
