I have a '98 900 SE which has had some irritating but minor issues in its
first 7,000 miles. In the first five days of owning the car, the LOW
COOLANT warning came on in the display. I'm glad I didn't simply add
coolant without going to the dealer, because there was a leaking radiator
hose (the mechanic said the clamp was overtightened, causing a slice). At
about 5,500 miles, the driver's side door wouldn't open from the inside
because the linkage had slipped inside but was remedied in five minutes in
an drop-in service stop. A rattle in the rear seatback was fixed
completely.
The main thing is that since these repairs have been fixed quickly and at
no cost to me by the pleasant and helpful Saab people at the two dealer
I've visited, I would not hesitate to recommend a Saab, and would buy
another Saab tomorrow if the opportunity arose. It is really a great car
which is eminently practical AND fun to drive. Hopefully Saab will have
Lexus-like initial quality in 8 years or so when it comes time for a new
one.
