Trust me stay with > the conventional oil. A couple of points to make here. 1) SAAB engines do not suffer from wear on the bearings and rings anything like other engines. The last time I was at my SAAB dealers the tech told me a story about when they where claiming 5K compensation from a well known breakdown recovery company. The customers car had suffered a engine blow up due to the wrong spark plugs being fitted (champion plugs) to a four yr old 9000 turbo. The car had covered 130,000 miles and the recovery companys claim was that they didn't have to shell out for a new engine due to engine wear etc. The SAAB garage pulled the engine apart and measured the cylinder bore diameters ring wear etc and determined that the engine would have required around 500,000 miles on it until a rebuild would have been required. They took the company to court and won the money for a brand new engine. 2) The "thickness" of the oil is given by the weight rating i.e. 10w-40 the 10w bit tells you how thick the oil is. Synthetic V standard makes no difference to oil thickness. ALWAYS run a turbo on synthetic oil. The standard stuff will break down in no time (<3k miles) and will prove a false economy especially when the turbocharger gives up. 3) If the oil is too thin for the engine you will know about it since you may develop strange oil leaks and loose oil out the engine breathers etc. If the car drives smoothly and doesn't loose oil then why be stupid and put thicker oil in. Seriouslly if you take this guys crap advice and put something like bog standard 20w-50 in the engine you will do it serious damage.
