Stephen, The solution is simple. If you don't want your A/C to kick on and cool the car off, push the ECON button and manually set your buttons. I have an 87 9000S. Last May I had my A/C compressor replaced. I was surprised to see my car heat up on a cool or cold day, only to have the A/C come on to cool it back down. I normally keep the temperature set around 70 degrees. Once the engine has heated up, I push the Econ button. The other thing you can do is ride with your sunroof cracked open. It will help keep the inside a little cooler and the heat engaged, if you remain in Auto. Ken Washington 87 9000S 87 900S 83 900T
