£20000.00 sounds about right. I have an '84 900T, with about 150,000km, and, yesterday, the transmission died on me. I, too, was quoted £1300 for a reconditioned transmission from Saab (I don't have to send mine in, though), and about £300 for labour. Though, I was told it is a two-day job. The Saab owner from Finland has a valid point, about searching the scrap yards. But keep in mind, manual transmissions are, almost, a dime a dozen. Auto transmissions are, for lack of a better word, rare. Chances of finding a decent auto trans in a scrap yard, are slim. On a nicer note, pay to have the transmission from Saab put in, it'll be warranted, and you know your Saab has the potential, yet again, to run forever. Saab transmissions are predetermined to either run forever, or die. Unfortunately one cannot predict which will falter. Perhaps GM will aid Saab in the way of a more reliable auto trans, for I see no other way GM's helped thus far. Happy hunting, and the best of luck! -Wills Farhan Ebrahimjee wrote: > > what I don't get is that for £1300.00 the tranny isn't a new one anyway. > The dealer will send my one back to Sweden, and Saab will repair it. > > They will then send another reconditioned one in its place which is > fully guaranteed. > > Anyne else ever experienced this??? > > Regards Farhan > > In article <i1JHmAA3dTp2Ew$bnopsaml-x-optician.demon.co.uk>, Farhan > Ebrahimjee <Farhannopsaml-x-optician.demon.co.uk> writes > >Hiya guys.. > > > >My baby has just stopped and after having it hauled of the motorway and > >to a saab dealer, they told me there is no pressure in the autobox. > > > >A reconditioned tranny will cost 1350 Uk pounds, labour of 9 hours at 55 > >Uk pound per hour and misc parts for 100 uk pounds. > > > >Total Bill = Just over £2000.00 (approximately $3200) > > > >Can anyone give me any advice or help??? > > > >Should I get the car independently inspected in case the garage is > >running rings around me?? > > > >Does anyone know a good UK dealer that is good at fixing these > >problems?? > > > >Is it common for the trans to go at 120k?? > > > >Thank you all in advance > > > >Farhan > > > >900S 16V (late '89) > > > > > > -- > Farhan Ebrahimjee -- William T.
