Richard,
Before you criticize, maybe *you* should do some research. Although I admit
I should have said this, my experience is with used cars. Here are the
specs for the ones I currently own:
1985 Audi 4000 Quattro: 118hp 5-cyl 10-V motor, vehicle weight about 2700
lbs.
1989 Audi 100 Quattro: 135hp 5-cyl 10-V, about 3300 lbs.
1986 Saab 9000 Turbo: 195hp w/minor tweaks, 165HP stock 4-cyl 16-V, about
3000 lbs.
The most comparable Audi product to the 9000 at the time would have been a
5000 turbo quattro, rated about 145HP and pulling a car that weighs about
300lbs more. The 217hp 2.3L 5 cyl. turbo you refer to is the 20-V motor
that had limited availability for a few years.
Also, if you want to compare apples and oranges, you should say so. Some
quick web research (www.edmunds.com) shows the following:
Saab 9-5 SE sedan w/3.0 V-6 engine: 200hp, 229ft-lb, weight 3410lb
Audi A8 sedan w/4.2 V-8 engine: 300hp, 295ft-lb, weight 3902lb
What's the catch? The Saab costs $37,000 and the Audi costs $65,000. Wanna
take a quick survey of people on this list to see who can afford a $65,000
car?
