Come on , that is contrary to what every car magazine, government and safety
tests prove.
Wearing your seatbelt is one, the Airbag is an additional help against
injuries, no matter if you wear the seatbelt or not. It protects your head
which is going forward anyway.
It is not correct that because some Americans still think that it is wise
not to wear a seatbelt and they think it is not necessary because it limits
their freedom (sic) therefore the Airbag came in place. The American airbag
is indeed bigger because some of them are still stupid enough to drive
without their seatbelt. In Europe the use of the seatbelt is (thank god)
obliged and therefore the airbag is smaller. Don't tell me that at that
point the airbag has no function. Have you ever seen a crash test with
dummies wearing their seatbelt. The impact causes an incredible swing on
the head and even the body is moving slightly forward despite the seatbelt.
At that point the airbag can and will reduce your injuries.
So, make it work again.
