I just spoke to a SAAB trans specialist about my 86 900 turbo which had a similar problem. I emphasise HAD as the problem gets worse (see my post of 17/6 "just lost 2nd gear") Apparentley, and I am in now way mechanical, a band adjustment can get rid of the shudders that occur on gear change under power. If the band is not adjusted then a couple of things can happen 1) the hydraulic servo can break (as it has on mine) 2) the band can move further out and --- i can't remember what the mechanic called it but it sounded ugly !! and expensive. So best to get that band adjusted to avoid a costly transmission overhaul. Trade price in Western Australia is $3,200. How does that compare to other parts of the world ? Mike Williams Perth, Western Australia PS. I hope you are referring to an Automatic transmission and not a generic Auto (as in car) ! redonald wrote in message <376884dbnopsam2.vip.uk.com>... >when changing up from 2 to 3 gear it really clunks in at speed around >40mph - on full throttle its smooth change at about 50mph.
