Hi, Nobody responded to the other original question regarding bringing back a used European Saab to the USA. In order to legally import the car to the US and get it licensed, the car would have to meet US specifications. That includes emission controls, exhaust system, headlights, side collision door beams, etc., etc., etc. This can be VERY expensive. Some years ago (~1989), I saw a brand new 900T 5-door driving on I294 near Chicago, with Illinois plates. I was stunned since Saab US hadn't imported 5-door 900s since 1980. I was very curious as to where it came from. My mechanic knew of the car. He said the owner had a 4-door of the same year, model, and color. He brought the 5-door to Chicago, spent a weekend removing all the necessary parts from the 4-door, including doors, etc., and putting them on the 5-door. He then took the 5-door to customs for US inspection, which it passed, of course. The following weekend he restored the parts to the original cars, and then he sold the 4-door. He landed up with a European-trim 5-door with US customs certification.
