I've only owned older versions of both brands (Saab 99s and BMW 2002, 528i ('78)). Foggy and inaccurate memory says that for similar parts the Saab price is 80% of the BMW price. So: Reasonable=$50 BMW=$100 Saab=$80 The formula was born out more or less in the course of regular tuneups and driveline repairs. Don't own any BMWs at the moment, but still have the Saab. Don't know why the hefty devalution though--have heard this other places as well. Used to be attributable to the unusual design--in the 70's and 80's some of the design moves weren't to everyone's liking. But a lot of the old funkiness (ignition in between the seats, buckle -less seat belts) is gone now, so I don't know why.
