white smoke = really bad news my guess is that you blew your head gasket. this is a major repair, as they must disassemble the engine to remove this $60 piece of rubberized stuff which is within your head. much like the cream inside the oreo, its hard to get at. when mine blew on my 88SPG we were talking $1k.
