You don't mention the year of your Saab. I have owned an 83 900T 5 spd for over 13 years, and 87 900S 5spd for over 2 years and have been driving an 87 9000S since December 97. I have never used anything but Castrol GTX 10W30 or 10W40 oil in any of my 5 spds. In my 900S I changed the oil every 20,000 to 25,000 miles. The only other thing I have used in my 5 spds is Militec-1. Many comments have been posted by Saab owners, who have tried Redline, only to have their transmissions go bad within 6 months. The only ones I would recommend synthetic oil for would be the ones coming from the factory with synthetic in them. Otherwise, most older manuals say do not use synthetic oil in the 5 spds.
