Don't know about the dump valve... I just replaced the final (rear) muffler on my '88 9000 Turbo. After unbolting the old one, I fired up the car for a minute, just to hear what it sounded like. I have to tell you, it took me straight back to my college days when I was so poor I couldn't put a real muffler on my Datsun 510--I had the guys put on a glass pack instead. This left only the turbo, the catalytic converter and a smallish muffler in line. It sounded great. Very sporty. It's just that as great as that sounds putting around town or WFO in the boonies, it really gets on your nerves after a while on a long trip. I suppose (but it's only a guess) that there would be some miniscule increase in performance due to reduced back pressure. I really liked the exhaust note of the old 99s and early 900s. There was a certain resonance they made that let you know it was a Saab. But that was a long time ago... Is it possible to buy a system that has just one muffler (i.e. does > not have the muffler in the center section)?
