I have just had clutch problems with my 1985 900 TU3. At first the clutch was really stiff, then no pressure at all (and didn't work - lots of burning smell from clutch). The next day the clutch was back to normal but with a screeching sound that went away with slight pedal pressure. After a short test run the stiff clutch reappeared. Removed the plastic clutch cover and found that the plastic sleeve was melting and had fouled the shaft - resulting in a sticking release bearing after it heated up. As a temporary measure ('cause the sleeve is supposed to keep the shaft clean) I wired the sleeve back so it does not contact the release bearing and cleaned away the melted plastic. The result is a normal clutch with no noises. I did notice that in neutral with engine running the release bearing was at first stationary on the shaft but then started spinning - I don't know whether it should spin or not. adrianb wrote: > I just had my clutch replaced on my 1993 900s by a non-saab > specialist although the guy was European and had worked on saabs > before.
