Subject: Anyone with a clue? Squeaking in front wheel, 900S...CV joint??

Saab folks, Could someone help me diagnose a in the right front wheel area of my daughter's '88 900S? She first noticed it when slowly turning to the left. The noise comes from the area of the right front wheel, and is an alternating groan/sqwak varying with speed (frequency) and load (loudness). For instance, when circling tightly on a hillside, it made much more noise when the right tire was downhill. I took the car for a long coutry road drive and found that the noise turned into a higher pitched chirp/squeak related to road speed when turning left, and again, the noise was louder when the curve was also banked so that the load was increased on the right wheel. I thought it was a bearing problem, but upon returning home, I jacked the car and found the front wheels did not rock top-to-bottom when pulled and pushed. I removed the tire and felt the hub area...no more than warm after 30 miles of driving. I think those two tests eliminate wheel bearing problems. The next thing I thought of was the right outer CV joint, but I've never had one go out, so I don't know what sort of sound it might make. I do know that the right tripod joint is worn somewhat, but this sound is definitely coming from outboard of that joint; further, I don't think a noise from the tripod would increase with turning load, as it would not likely experience greatly increased load in turns. I do hear the bumping noise from the tripod at times. I would like to fix both of these at the same time, so I hope the list can help me figure out this problem. Anyone know this one??? TIA/Don Carron "LABOR SVGIT"
