Firstly, get the Haynes or whatever (better) manual. Can't speak for the CV joints as I haven't done them, but the entire braking system is easy to do - pads/discs (on my 9000 - didn't the 900 inherit the 9k brakes, or was it later than this?) and didn't require special tools.
