The 1994 model was the first year of the NG900 model. Most first year models have problems and Saab was no exception. > > > I was thinking of either a 9000 or another 900 hatchback. Some years better than others? Other > suggestions? The 1994 model was the first year of the NG900 model. Most first year models have problems and Saab was no exception. After a few years Saab dropped the clutch cable and went back to the hydraulic clutch. The engine however was not returned to the "backwards" position which has been given some credit for the Classic's ability in the snow. You should drive a NG900 - I have I notice two things right away. The roof pillars are thicker, presumably stronger and padded better, but they reduced visibility. To be fair just about any mid to late 90's car I drove had this same feature/problem. The second was the reduction in the visibility out of the rear window. The sheet metal is higher, which makes it harder to see objects behind the car. The hatchback also has a lip which makes it more difficult to unload large or heavy objects - the Classic hatchback has no lip and object just slide in and out. Other than these minor body design issues and the cable clutch, the NG900 is a good car. You could do worse. The one good thing about Saabs is they do not hold their value, which makes is good for the buyer. > > > I've had this car for almost 8 years but if it is going to need a lot of > work and money it might be better to replace it with something more modern. > > Thanks, > > Charles.
