In article <7koa2vcmp471j68t3g4bi7i79r2pl451k8nopsamcom>, uctraingNOSPAMersnopsamanet.com says... > As a UK/European perhaps you can answer this... are the higher prices > you pay due to taxes, or due to the oil companies just ripping > you off ? > Higher fuel Tax, and Value added tax. It would cost a third of what it does now, if the tax wasn't on it. And the fuel companies push it too. To give you an idea of fuel prices and the profits made by the fuel companies. With taxes rising over a weekend, I had to make a 200 mile south journey. When I let it was 79p a litre for regular "Premium" 95 ron unleaded. I filled up for the journey (on the Friday). On my way back I had to fill up again. Normally in the UK, the further south (or closer to London) you go the more expensive things get. I was surprised to find that petrol was 70p a litre (on the Sunday). Once I got home and had to fill up next, I double checked the price locally and it had dropped to 73p a litre, closer, but not the same as down south. The difference on a litre (NorthVSouth) would have made it about 1.4 USD a gallon. Even the price change locally would have been 60 cents a gallon. That is how much profit they can play with when in a price war. -- Carl Robson http://www.bouncing-czechs.com
