One of my 1998 9-5SE displays started to fail during the normal 3 year warranty and the other one started to fail during my 2 year extended warranty. Both were replaced free of charge under warranty. =20 I assume the car is out of warranty (mine's not - the 5 years is up this July), so at the very least, try and get Saab to share the cost - they will do that if you have a good case, as you have. The display failure is common and well known. I had my walnut dash insert crack last year, and was told it was trim and not covered by the extended warranty. My dealer suggested I write to Saab pointing out the crack was due to poor design - a narrow width area with a sharply angled corner where the door lock switch went. Saab responded and paid half of the total cost of replacement, and suggested epoxy reinforcing under the narrow bit to stop it happening again. Nothing ventured, nothing gained. --=20 Regards, Peter Wilkins
