Jared: I was actually responding to the guy who posted about the NG900, so I have to tweak my comments for you: AFAIK, Saab changed the Trionic system some time around MY2000 so that an MBC has little effect. You should consult someone who knows th 9-5 but I think that if it has a Trionic-7 that it does not respond to the MBC - you _must_ do the CPU upgrade instead. Earlier cars get more of a choice. >I will definitely pop in a K&N for starters and look at removing the turbo >turbo silencer. The K&N will work... I don't think you have the turbo silencer as it was also discontinued in 1999, AFAIK. >Not sure I'd want to play with a throttle body, I guess >I'll read about it a bit. Again, I'm mostly an NG900 guy so I don't know if the later 9-5 would have the issue. The basic problem was that the throttle body was (is) a rough casting inside. Also, it does not match well at the manifold and does not flow well at the other end (the casting ends with a thick lip that reduces flow and increases turbulence. By doing a variation on "port and polish" you can increase airflow a bit at both ends while decreasing turbulence. I'll see if I can dig out the photos. You can check out the casting in about 10 minutes at no cost with just a couple of tools to see what yours looks like and decide if you want to do the job. FWIW, I don't think most people bother but it's a "free"improvement. > Before I pop for the exhaust I will either install an MBC >or go for the substitute Trionic install from a shop in Connecticut. If you are near RI, you might want to call Wigwam Saab. Try www.nordictuning.com. They have a selection of kits from Nordic Tuning in Sweden. One advantage is that you can have someone knowledgable do the work. One of the owners there does the Nordic work, he's a nice guy to talk to. They market a 300hp version of a 9-5 most of the time. (Not that you want to do that to a daily driver). Bob
