What if it's not? Mine is starting as well and it's not under warranty. I was thinking of finding a real fix to it and took it apart to look. It appears that the flex from one board to the other is held on with either a reflow solder or conductive glue/foam. If anyone has a SID that has bad pixels in it and wants to contribute to a "fix the SID" project, let me know directly. This may be "destructive" so I don't want to donate my only one! A friend/co-worker of mine knows how to fix stuff like this and said he'd like to give it a whirl. If you donate a SID that we figure out how to fix I'll make sure we fix another for you as well.
