Yep. Safety, because you can't damage your knees on the key in a bump. practicality, because on the older models the handbrake was on the front discs, which expand when hot. the at the end of a run, you put the hand/parking brake on. Then the discs cool and the brake can slacken a bit, but reverse will help to hold it. Security, because while you can wrench a wheel to get the steering lock off, it is harder with a gearstick because the stick might snap before they flip it out, and they have to get under the alloy block the barrel is to get to the ignition wires. > it's ok anyway. oh btw - i dont drive american cars. it's crap and utterly > embarrassing. it should be banned. no wonder we have too many laws in > america. saab is fine... i like its turbo boost. it serves me well When I said GM, I wasn't sure where you were, so I guess I was refering to Chevy (and any other US marques), Vauxhall, Opel, Daewoo, Holden, part concession in Subaru, some share in Fiat I believe. Bloody hell, they own a bit don't they. -- Carl Robson (The poster formerly known as Skodapilot) http://www.bouncing-czechs.com
