I bought my Saab in CA at the > end of 1997. I live across country now. I used to get my cars fixed at a local independent. Then I gave him my 9000 2.0t to do the head gasket on and ensused a long and sorry tale of woe. In the end it cost me nearly 2500 quid to have fixed at a main dealer. I only bought the car for half that. Some would say that was senseless but other options include buying a much newer car and just throwing away money on depreciation and there's no guarantee that things wouldn't need fixing on a newer car either. I used to run a Renault 19 16v as a company car, no problems whatsoever other than consumables. I loved the drive so bought one as a private purchase. I had 3 wheel bearings go, clutch, brake discs, pads as a result, battery, plenty of other stuff that i've long forgotten about - totally different animal. > I'm wondering if I have a 'lemon' since every year it seems to be > *something* and that something is never less than $500 to fix. > > Should I get rid of the car now? Well, in the nicest possible way, at least you have plenty of time to fix it yourself! :) I didn't at the time, needed a car urgently which is why I took my head gasket job to a garage. As a result I was without the car for about 6 weeks and I only did that because I didn't have time to spend a weekend on it and thought it would be faster if I let a pro do it. I'm now doing my maintenance on my cars again. Nuff said. David.
