On the pre-GM 900s (up to 1993 and into 1994 for certain convertibles), engine wear is not really an issue. I wouldn't blink at 137000 miles, personally. Over 200,000 miles and I'd be tempted ... Over 300,000 miles and I'd buy it :) Transmission wear is an issue, though, so if you can go for a test drive and see if it whines at constant speed in 3rd or above and stops when you let off the accelerator. Also, try a sporty run through second gear and third gear to see if the shifter pops out of gear. Still, removing, rebuilding a re-fitting the gearbox should not be more than 500 quid at the outside.
