It's not unheard of. Cat's usually get killed by too much raw gas
being dumped into them. That can happen because the O2 sensor went
bad. The O2 sensors on these do wear out eventually.
You can replace them, but you should do a general/major tune-up and
inspection on the engine to make sure everything is in order. Also
check the computer for any other codes.

autoparts store may be able to get the parts too - the O2 is a fairly
common component and other folks make cats. I'd go with eeuroparts.com
- inexpensive, very fast shipping, and they always fit.
