Subject: 1997 900S starting problem.
Recently aquired 1997 2.3L non-turbo manual trans 900S frequently
fails to start. Cranks fine, good battery voltage, no spark, fuel
pump runs and develops normal pressure during no start condition.
Resistance readings on coil and camshaft sensor appear normal.
Crankshaft sensor is 930 ohms. Can get car started by a dose of
starting fluid in the throttle body and will run and start fine for a
week or two and then no-start condition reappears. No start appears
after vehicle sits 10 hours or more, never had a problem with re-
starts after getting going in the morning. Cannot figure out the
relationship of the starting fluid to the computer releasing the
ignition. Is there any info available on what inputs the Motronic
computer is looking for to start sending pulses to the coil? Thanks
for your help.
