NORCROSS, Ga. - Both of Saab's new models, the Saab 9-5 and Saab 9-3, have been named among 'Ithe best cars sold in America," according to Consumer Review magazine's panel of automotive experts. Editors selected the Swedish automaker's newly introduced Saab 9-3 line - Coupe, five-door and Convertible - and the new Saab 9-5 performance sedan for inclusion in the annual guide, Consumer Review Top 40 New Cars.
After evaluating more than 200 new car models, Consumer Review selected ten top cars in each of four categories: Luxury/Sports Sedans, Family Cars, Sports Coupe/Convertible and Bargain Cars. The Saab 9-5 line was selected as one of its "Top 10 Luxury/Sports Sedans," while the Saab 9-3 models were honored in the "Top 10 Family Cars" category.
Winners on the Top 40 best cars list are chosen as "vehicles that will give you the most value for your money," Consumer Review editors wrote. The well-equipped Saab 9-5's base price is $29,995. Describing the Saab 9-5, editors reported, "The 9-5 provides an over-the-road feeling of considerable refinement. It is the type of car that endears itself to its occupants more each mile, making it particularly well suited to long drives."
Among the many "High Points" of the Saab 9-3 five-door and Coupe, editors wrote, "Nearly all the luxury features come standard at a reasonable price. This much alone is tough to find in a European or Japanese car costing under $30,000. Yet Saab does this beginning in the mid-$20,000 arena." The review tags the Saab 9-3 Convertible as "the champion 4-seat ragtop on the marketplace today."
The 1999 Saab 9-3 goes on sale May 1,1998, while the Saab 9-5 is already in Saab showrooms around the country.
