Steering column locks stick on all cars.... Posted by Mike Lynch [Email] ![]() ![]() In Reply to: Says steering wheel lock on startup retry?, Rlanphier, Thu, 23 Dec 2004 20:00:15 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Like battery and coil failure another common problem for all cars is the steering column lock sticking. I assume you have a 9-3SS as you're getting a message on the SID for this.
Most of the time it fixes itself by removing the key, jiggling the wheel, and reinserting the key. The direction to jiggle is counter intuitive, if it feels one way jiggle the opposite way. And if it won't unstick, have someone else big and strong try it (it can't be broken) and as always, make sure you hold your mouth right..........
If it's persistent than likely changing out the steering column lock will be required under warranty.
I'm curious what changing out the ignition lock was supposed to do? Seems like wasted warranty money by someone who was unaware the 9-3SS has an electronic key, after all you can hear the steering lock relay doing it's job meaning the key works.
