Right, whether or not the mirrors droop automatically when you go into reverse, and how they return to normal, varies a bit between the 2004's and 2005's, and you didn't mention which year you had, so I was guessing a bit. (For example, I think in the 2004's, the mirrors return to normal as soon as you take the car back out of reverse, but in the 2005's, you have to drive forward a few feet or press the button, if I remember right.)
Anyway, yes, I think you're on the right track -- I don't think the mirrors could possibly BOTH be drooping due to some component failure because, again, they are pretty independent from one another.
