To answer your original question: Nobody knows if the 9-3SS is reliable in the long run. It was an all new car for the 03 model year. It's only been on the road a bit more than 2 years. Will the GM Ecotec engine stand up to turbocharging after 100000 miles? Will the transmission be strong enough to handle the torque? It takes more than a couple of years for durability issues in the big mechanical bits to surface, if any are lurking. Nothing was carried over from the old 9-3 so it isn't a guide to the present model. That might be a good thing considering the problems it had but most of them took at least 3 years to manifest themselves.
