ipod on '03 9-3 SS - Confused by all the data

Hey all,
Found a lot of great data on this board regarding getting my ipod integrated via aux-in (Ari2's post, expostdelirium's, etc.) But all the information has me mightily confused now, so I'm hoping someone can just answer a few questions for me and get me rolling.
I have: ipod 2'nd generation (big plug on top)...for now. Also, 2003 9-3 SS.
Questions:
1) My older ipod does not have a dock connector. Can I still get line-in audio through the firewire port? If so, can you suggest a cord? http://www.sik.com doesn't have one, and belkin doesn't seem to have an appropriate cable either...
2) If I can't do line-in audio with my older ipod, my only recourse is to do standard headphone in, correct? And if I went with that solution, then would the best bet be to just get something like an etadyne solution?
3) I'm a little hesitant to mess around with my head unit and such - mainly because I've never done it, and also because Ari2's comment about parts of it being "like a stack of cards" worries me :) Would you guys suggest I go to a car installer/electronics store (like CircuitCity), or try to convince the Saab techs to do it?
Thanks!
Dave
